Power Carving, Fine Art

Evolution of POWER CARVING

This progressive body of work concentrates on both Symmetry, Asymmetry, form and presence. As I descend further into hand and power carving, this series will continue to grow over time. All works are accompanied with a CoA.

Nile Moon

 - Hand/Power Carved
-Quilted Ash

-Satin Black Milk Paint

-Metallic Blue Gilding Wax

-Sapele Moon and Base

-Provenance and CoA
- 34' Height
- 39' Wide
- 2" Thick

Inspired from a photograph I saw many years ago of a full moon resting above the Nile River at night. My goal was to mimic moonlight reflecting off the water. The carving process created highpoints in the wood, mirroring moving water. I turned off the lights in my studio and set a flashlight where the moon is. While slowly spinning the flashlight, I applied blue metallic gilding wax only to the highpoints of the carvings.

This was the first piece in the series and my first time using power carving tools.
